Paragraph 2091. The first commandment is also concerned with sins against hope, namely, despair and presumption: (1864)

By despair, man ceases to hope for his personal salvation from God, for help in attaining it or for the forgiveness of his sins. Despair is contrary to God's goodness, to his justice-for the Lord is faithful to his promises-and to his mercy.
Paragraph 1037. God predestines no one to go to hell; for this, a willful turning away from God (a mortal sin) is necessary, and persistence in it until the end. In the Eucharistic liturgy and in the daily prayers of her faithful, the Church implores the mercy of God, who does not want "any to perish, but all to come to repentance": (162, 1014, 1821, 678-679)
